Reacting to My 2024 Reading Goals | Bookmas Day 4

I had wondered the other day if I had set any reading goals for 2024, pretty much because I don't always set reading goals for the year outside of choosing my Goodreads reading challenge goal. So I really wasn't sure. And it turns out I did. Made a video and everything is up on YouTube. So I wanted to go back and revisit these goals, see how successful I was, see how much of a good idea it was for me to even make goals. And it looks like I only made six. So I want to go ahead and react to these goals and see one, if I completed that goal, and two, if I didn't, will I carry this goal over to 2025?

0:51 I mean, that is if I should even make a list of goals for 2025. Spoiler alert, I should probably stop making goals. So first off, I want to catch up on some series I started last year in 2023. We have Fox Love, which is a sequel to Bella Donna by Adeline Grace. I read the first book last year and I really enjoyed it. So I definitely want to continue on and it is a book that I purchased. So I definitely want to read the books that I own. And this one like the others I'm going to mention, I want to know what happens next. Also there's As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson, which is the third book in the A Good Girl's Guide to Murder trilogy.

1:32 Also A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas. This is a part of the ACOTAR series and I believe it's the last book that was released, the most current book that was released in this series. I'm very, I am rather hit or miss on this series, but I do want to know what's going on. I do want to know what's happening and I do want to know if I'll ever change my mind and actually like re-sand. I can't do it! I can't! And the last one I want to mention here is the Mistborn trilogy. Completing this is definitely a goal for 2024. Reading the Well of Ascension, reading the Hero of Ages, continuing on in this world is a priority.

2:14 So it looks like goal number one was catch up on some series. Well, let's, and I did mention some books that I wanted to read. Let's see if I read them. So the first book I mentioned was Fox Club, the sequel to Bella Donna by Adeline Grace. I did not read this. I did however purchase the third book in the trilogy with Stereo. So at least I own the complete trilogy, I guess. The next book I mentioned was As Good as Dead by Holly Jackson, the final book in the A Good Girl's Guide to Murder trilogy. And same as the last one, I have not read this yet. It's been on my list to read all year. This one definitely. So I have looked at the book. I have thought about picking it up.

2:57 But for some reason, I haven't read it. The next one I mentioned was A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas, the latest released in the Akatar series. And again, no, I have not read this. I don't know what was going on with me in 2024. Maybe I just forgot I even made this short list because this is pretty hilarious. This is pretty hilarious. And the last one, I am completely annoyed with myself. I'm very annoyed with myself. Completely the Mistborn trilogy, The Well of Ascension and The Hero of Ages. I could have done that this year and I didn't. I don't know why.

3:37 I honestly do not know why. I honestly do not know why I did not pick up any of these books. I don't know. I love the first book. Loved it so much. Let's just move on to the second goal before I get more angry at myself. My next reading goal is to reread the All Souls series by Deborah Harkness. So I own quite a few copies of the series. I'm kind of obsessed with this series. If you want to know what my two favorite series are, on one side of the coin you have The Red Rising Saga by Pierce Brown and on the other side of the coin you have The All Souls series by Deborah Harkness.

4:26 I don't know. They are definitely total opposites, but I love them dearly. I love them both dearly. So goal number two was reread the All Souls series by Deborah Harkness. A new book in that series came out this year as well. I own that and I haven't read it yet. Now did I reread the entire All Souls series? No I did not. Did I start a Discover Witches, the first book in the series? Yes. Yes I did. I even did some chapter read alongs on my YouTube channel and I'm currently completing those read alongs on my SubSac newsletter. There'll be a link in the description box down below if you want to follow along. So the answer to this is no, but I started.

5:13 I probably will go ahead and do a reread of them next year. Maybe I can't promise, but I definitely want to finish reading the first book and then hurry up and read the most recent release so that I can know what's happening to some of my favorite characters. The next one is another possible series I end up re-reading and that is the Shadowhunters series by Cassandra Clare. Now I've read the Moral Instruments, I've read the Afernal Devices, I have not read the Dark Artifices and I believe it's called The Last Hours. So I'm either going to reread all the ones I read and then start with the ones I haven't read or just start where I left off.

5:58 I'm not sure. But this series is a lot of fun and I have a lot of fun reading them. Oh, there is the Malak trilogy, right? I own the first book of it. I guess that's part of it I need to read as well. Hmm. And I think there are some short stories I'm going to have to get as well. There's a lot of reading. There's a lot of reading to be done here, but I am going to at least get started back into this series this year. Rule number three, reread the Shadowhunters series by Cassandra Clare. I honestly do not remember making this goal at all. I really, I really don't remember.

6:39 I really do not. But you know what? I want to do it. I did not do it by the way. No, I did not complete this goal, but I want to. That sounds fun. That really does sound fun. And I may end up doing like episodes per book or whatnot. That actually sounds fun. I will definitely put a pen in that. The next goal I have is very, very long overdue. And that is to read Jane Austen. Now I've read Pride and Prejudice, but I have not read any of the others. And I'm actually not happy with myself about that because I consider myself to be an Emma girl. I love Clueless. I love Clueless.

7:19 And the Emma adaptation that came out a few years ago. I love that. I bought it. I'm obsessed with it. I watch it a lot actually. But I haven't read the book and I feel like if I'm going to be an Emma girl, I have to actually read the book. But that is a plan this year to read Jane Austen. I'm going to read Emma, reread Pride and Prejudice, then you have Mansfield Park, Persuasion, Sense and Stability, and Northanger Abbey. Reading these books this year definitely needs to happen. Well, well, well, goal number four, read Jane Austen. I'm so mad at myself. No, no, I did not.

8:00 My goodness, what is wrong with me? Why do I make these goals and then not follow up on them? I don't know. I had looked at Jane Austen. What? I had looked at my copies of the Jane Austen books this year and thought, hmm, maybe I should read that. And then I didn't read it. So this is just making me sad, honestly. Me looking back on these goals is honestly just making me sad. But that's okay. That's okay. That's, that's quite all right. I guess I'm gonna have to be all right with it because it's not like I can go back in time and change things and make sure that I've read these books. But yeah, let's just move on.

8:41 Let's just move on. Another author I own quite a few books of that I have not read and that is N.K. Jimmison. I own the Inheritance trilogy. I own the fifth season. I own a couple other of her books that are in front of me so I don't have their names right now. But I've heard so many good things about N.K. Jimmison. I believe each of the books in the Broken Earth trilogy won like an award. So yeah, she's definitely an author that I believe I need to read. Goal number five, read N.K. Jimmison. So I believe I just heard myself say I've never read N.K.

9:22 Jimmison. I think I lied because I'm pretty sure I had read the first book in the Inheritance trilogy before. I don't really remember it because it was a few years ago and I honestly don't remember it. But I'm pretty sure I did. Now, did I read any N.K. Jimmison in 2024? That would be a no. That would be a no. I did not. I'm pretty sure I've read at least one of her books. So that's that's a thing. So that's a success. Just not from 2024. I'm going to I'm going to count that as a success just because. And the last author, obviously, no one should be surprised about no one at all because that is Stephen King.

10:08 I still have yet to read Stephen King. I know. I know. I've been talking about this for the last few months. I understand that. But 2024 is going to be the year that I read Stephen King. It's happening. It's happening. It's happening. So. I mean, I've pretty much grown quite the collection of unread Stephen King books. I have that collection. Why don't I just go ahead and start reading them? And that is something I plan to do in 2024. Rule number six, read Stephen King. Oh my goodness.

10:49 No, no, I have not read any of these Stephen King books yet. And it is December. It is December of 2024. I made these goals, I believe, in January. And no, no. So that's a no. Pretty much a no for all of these goals. Huh? Well, at least I made goals. At least that's something I did. At least I decided to sit down and make some goals for myself. That's good, right? Yeah, that's a good thing, right? Now let's see. Will I, will I carry over any of these goals into 2025?

11:30 Even though I probably shouldn't even make goals for 2025. Let's see. The reread of the Xiao Hunter series one. That one is at the top of the list because that one I really do kind of want to do because I do think that will be fun. The next thing on here I must do is continue on in the Mistborn trilogy. Seriously, I need to stop that one. I need to do that. I need to continue on and complete that trilogy. Seriously, no more messing around. Let's do it. Asuka is Dead by Holly Jackson. I mean, yeah, I probably should because then I'll have that trilogy completed. So that one, yes. The others I don't know as of yet.

12:12 I'm not ready to make any goals for 2025 yet. So I kind of want to wait until closer to the end of the year or early next year before those goals are made or even if I decide to make goals.
